Setup is quick. What decides whether it earns its keep is the routine around it: a short testing loop in week one, a five-minute check each morning, and a plan for your monthly minutes. Here is that routine, step by step, using the screens in the app.
The short answer
Treat an AI answering service like a new hire. Test it, read what it said, correct what it got wrong, then check in briefly every day.
You teach it on the Knowledge tab, give it rules on the Agent tab, and watch your AI minutes on the Dashboard. Once the loop settles, the daily part takes about five minutes.
How an AI answering service fits into your day
Before the call: how calls reach it
Your dedicated number answers directly, or you forward your existing line to it. Start with conditional forwarding, which is the busy and no-answer kind, so your phone rings first and the AI only takes what you miss. Switch to forwarding everything when you want it to handle after-hours stretches or a vacation.
During the call: what it does
It greets, answers from your Knowledge tab, collects your capture fields, follows your instructions and books time or flags a request. You do not have to be near your phone.
After the call: your part
This is where the routine lives. A push notification arrives, the call appears in your Calls tab with a summary, and you decide what needs a callback. The next sections turn that into a habit.
Week one: the testing loop
Before real customers rely on it, have a conversation with it yourself. Most businesses go from download to fully live in under ten minutes, according to the Help Center, and the testing loop is what makes the result sharp.
- Call your dedicated number from your cell phone and talk like a customer would.
- Ask the three questions customers ask most, then one curveball that is not in its knowledge yet.
- Within about a minute of hanging up, open the call in your Calls tab and read the summary and transcript.
- Add whatever it missed or got wrong to the Knowledge tab.
- Call again. Two or three rounds is usually enough.
Changes go live within moments of saving, so it costs nothing to experiment with a new greeting, voice or tone. Repeat a short test after every big change.
The five-minute morning check
- Open the Dashboard. The red badge on Total Calls counts what came in since you last looked.
- Open Booked, then Pending. Confirm or dismiss each meeting request. A fast answer is often the difference between a booked customer and one who found someone else.
- Read the AI summary of each new call, and read the action items first.
- Check the sentiment count. Open any negative call to see whether a price surprised someone or the agent lacked an answer.
- Write down any question the agent fumbled and add it to Knowledge when you have a minute.
Reading a call row
- Caller: the name if the agent captured one, otherwise the phone number.
- Time: shown in your business timezone, not the caller's.
- Mic icon: a recording exists, and the player is inside the call detail.
- Outcome pill: Completed, Voicemail, or Booked when a meeting came out of the call.
- Duration: how long the conversation lasted.
Spend your AI minutes on purpose
Only time the AI spends talking counts against your allowance. Pro includes 250 minutes per billing month and Premium includes 500. The minutes card on the Dashboard shows how many you have used and when they reset. Its bar stays blue while you are comfortable, turns amber past 80 percent and turns red at the limit.
At the limit the AI pauses, and callers hear a brief temporarily unavailable message until your minutes reset on your billing date, or right away if you upgrade to Premium. Ring my phone first keeps working while the AI is paused, so you still get your calls.
Ways to stretch your minutes
- Use ring my phone first. Any call you answer yourself costs no AI minutes.
- Turn on Spam Filters (Premium). Blocked calls never connect, so junk callers never use minutes.
- Keep the greeting short. Callers talk over long greetings anyway.
Write rules the way you would brief a new hire
Standing instructions are where an AI answering service starts to sound like your business. Write them in plain words, the way you would brief a new receptionist on their first day.
- "Never quote prices for custom work. Take their details instead."
- "Always ask how they heard about us."
- "If it is an emergency, tell them to call 911 first."
Pair the rules with capture fields, the details the agent weaves into the conversation: name, phone number, email, reason for calling, plus anything your follow-up needs. Everything captured shows up on the call's detail page.
Hand the results to your other tools
If you run a CRM or an automation tool, Premium adds ways to move call data out of the app automatically.
- Webhooks push an event to your endpoint when a call completes, a lead is captured or a meeting is booked. A common recipe is webhook to Zapier to your CRM.
- The REST API and API keys let you pull calls, leads and agent settings into your own reports.
- The Website Widget puts a call bubble on your site so visitors can talk to your agent in their browser. Website conversations use the same monthly minutes as phone calls.
- Calendar Sync lets the agent check your real Google Calendar and book a free slot during the call.
What an AI answering service will not do
It does not replace you on calls that need judgment, and it cannot answer questions you never taught it. It does not diagnose, inspect or price a job nobody has seen. It is not a dispatcher: if you run a true round-the-clock emergency line, its job is to capture the call cleanly so you can act quickly on the summary.
It also depends on your carrier for forwarding. Forwarding is set up with your carrier, not in the app, so if you change carriers you will need to set it up again.
Plans and limits
- Pro24/7 answering, transcripts, bookings and 250 AI minutes a month.
- Premium500 AI minutes, plus Calendar Sync (books into Google Calendar), Spam Filters, the Website Widget and Integrations. Without Calendar Sync, bookings wait in Pending for you to confirm.
- Out of minutes? The AI pauses until your minutes reset on your billing date, or right away if you upgrade to Premium. Calls you answer yourself never use minutes.
- The app also works in a browser: sign in at nomissedcall.app. Purchases and upgrades happen in the mobile app.
Free to download with a 7-day free trial. Billing runs through the App Store or Google Play, and current prices are shown in the app. Get it on iPhone | Get it on Android

Ai answering service: frequently asked questions
What is an AI answering service?
An AI answering service uses software instead of a person to answer your business calls. It greets callers, answers from the material you gave it, collects their details and logs each call. No Missed Call is an AI answering service you run from an iPhone or Android app.
How is an AI answering service different from a human answering service?
A human service uses people to take calls for many businesses. An AI answering service answers every call itself, around the clock, and saves a summary, transcript and recording of each one. Humans are stronger on emotional or complex calls, and AI is stronger on routine calls at all hours.
What happens to calls when my minutes run out?
The AI pauses and callers hear a brief message that the line is temporarily unavailable. Calls you answer yourself through ring my phone first keep working. The AI turns back on at your next reset, or right away if you upgrade to Premium.
Can I use an AI answering service only after hours?
Yes. Forward all calls to your dedicated number in the evening and on weekends, and keep conditional forwarding the rest of the time. Forwarding is set up with your phone carrier, and the in-app guide shows the dial codes.
Where do I read my calls?
In the Calls tab of the app. Each call shows an AI summary, action items, captured details, a transcript and a recording. You can also sign in at nomissedcall.app in any browser.
Does an AI answering service block spam calls?
Spam Filters, part of Premium, block numbers you list, toll-free telemarketers if you enable it, callers with hidden or spoofed caller ID and numbers flagged as spam across the No Missed Call network. Blocked calls never connect and never use minutes.
